Politics (Sweden) – Health care politics

I'm continuing my work comparing the different Swedish parties so I know what I'm voting for on the 9th of September. This time I have looked a little closer on the topic of "Health Care".

I have chosen to look at each party's website where the party's vision and policies are laid out. In my opinion, these websites are the first place a voter should go to find the information they need to make an informed decision on September 9.

Moderate Party (Moderaterna):
  • Want the patient to be in the centre, not stuck in the waiting room.
  • Want everyone to have the right to one contact person within the health system.
  • Want to focus and invest more money into the care to help people with mental illnesses.
  • Want to introduce a new strategy that will meet the needs for people with cancer.
  • Want to strengthen the chain between maternity care, childbirth care and aftercare to create more security for the mother and the baby.
  • Want to strengthen the support for people who have been on sick leave and want to return to work.

Centre Party (Centerpartiet):
  • Believes that health care should be available all over the country and be of high quality.
  • Want to shorten the queues to receive medical care.
  • Want everyone to have the right to one contact person within the health system.
  • Want to provide more than one medical alternative so the patient themselves can choose.
  • Want to make the medical care equal for everyone on all levels.
  • Want to help people living on the countryside to easier get access to medical care with digital solutions.

Social Democratic (Socialdemokraterna):
  • Want 14 000 more people work within health care in year 2022.
  • Want to work for a higher standard, both for the patients and health care workers.
  • Want quicker response times to emergency calls by investing more into ambulance services and helicopters.
  • Want to introduce a new developed strategy for cancer patients where we keep shortening the waiting list and keep building on the six regional cancer centres.

Green Party (Miljöpartiet):
  • Believes that health care should be available all over the country and be of high quality.
  • Want to break the trend of the increasing mental illnesses around the country.
  • Want to shorten the queues to receive medical care.
  • Believes that health care should not be pursued for profit.
  • Want to make it easier for people working with health care to expand their education.

Liberals (Liberalerna, tidigare Folkpartiet):
  • Want to shorten the queues to receive medical care.
  • Want the doctors and nurses to have more time with their patients.
  • Want people to be able to choose where in the country or within EU they want to get medical care from.
  • Want everyone to have the right to one contact person within the health system.

The Christian Democrats (Kristdemokraterna):
  • Believes that the medical care should be on the patients terms.
  • Believes that health care should be jointly funded and demand driven.
  • Want to shorten the queues to receive medical care.
  • Want everyone to have the right to one contact person within the health system.
  • Want to invest more time and money to help people with mental illnesses.

Left Party (Vänsterpartiet):
  • Believes that everyone should have the right to medical care.
  • Believes that health care should be tailored to people's need.
  • Believes everyone who needs medical care should feel economically safe, that's why this party want everyone to have a good health insurance, not only the wealthy.
  • Believes that anyone who suffers from mental illnesses should have access to good care.

Sweden Democrats (Sverigedemokraterna):
  • Want everyone in Sweden to have access to quality health care regardless of where in the country they live.
  • Believes that anyone who suffers from mental illnesses should have access to good care.
  • Want to invest more in shortening the queues for medical care, make room for more hospital beds and increase the quality of health care all over the country instead of letting "someone without permanent permission to be in Sweden to only pay 50 SEK for a dental visit".

These are some of the opinions and beliefs the different parties have when it comes to health care. Almost all of the parties seem to want the similar things on this topic, but of course not all policies are equal, some go much deeper into specifics while others only scratch the surface.
